Pillar 2 – Planet

CLIMATE CHANGE

GHG emissions

Pental Limited recognises the importance of environmental sustainability and the impact that our business operations have on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We are strongly committed to operating a sustainable and responsible business. We are dedicated to doing the right thing, not only for our business but for our people, the environment, our customers, and our local communities. We know that the positive initiatives we do can help support a better future for all.

As part of our Sustainability strategy and working towards a brighter tomorrow, Pental has committed to 4 pillars to ensure a sustainable and inclusive culture to drive positive impact, while managing the Company’s effect on the planet:

  • Governance: we ensure our governing principles evolve to meet needs of our people and the business environment ensuring that the principles of agency, accountability and stewardship continue for truly good governance
  • People: we aim to educate, support and empower employees (and people) to fulfil their potential in dignity and equality in a healthy environment
  • Planet: we implement initiatives to reduce GHG emissions, single-use plastics, and waste, and promote sustainable consumption and production.
  • Prosperity: we are proud to contribute to the local community, working together for an inclusive and sustainable future where community members can enjoy prosperous and healthy lives.

Pental Limited has a basic understanding of GHG reporting standards and recognises the importance of accurate and transparent GHG emissions reporting. Pental will be aiming to achieve a sufficient understanding of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard so that in the future we can align on complying with these GHG reporting standards.

We are aware of the different scopes of GHG emissions and their respective impacts on the environment. At present, Pental has not yet conducted a comprehensive GHG emissions inventory, but we are committed to undertaking this exercise in the near future. Our GHG inventory will cover all three scopes, including direct emissions from our operations (Scope 1), indirect emissions from our energy consumption (Scope 2), and in the future we may look at emissions generated by our supply chain and other activities (Scope 3).

At present, Pental Limited has not set any GHG emission reduction targets or initiatives. However, we acknowledge the importance of doing so and are committed to developing appropriate targets and initiatives in the near future. These targets and initiatives will be aligned with our broader sustainability goals and will be based on a comprehensive GHG emissions inventory.

Pental is committed to playing our part in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. We recognise the importance of reducing global GHG emissions to limit the impacts of climate change, and we are committed to doing our part. At present, we have not set any specific GHG targets in line with the Paris Agreement. However, we acknowledge the importance of limiting global warming to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and we will take this into account when setting our GHG reduction targets.

While we have not taken any formal action on this yet, we plan to gather data on our GHG emissions, set reduction targets and develop initiatives towards achieving these targets in line with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and the Paris Agreement. We will keep our stakeholders updated on our progress towards reducing our carbon footprint.

Water consumption

At Pental Limited, we recognise the importance of water management and the significant role it plays in our business operations. We use water in the production of our cleaning and chemical products, and therefore, we recognise the importance of responsible water management. We ensure that we use water efficiently and responsibly in our manufacturing processes. Water is a precious resource that needs to be conserved, and therefore, we have implemented a water management plan that includes regular monitoring and reporting of our water usage. We track our water consumption and have recorded the following data for the current financial year:

  • July: 3323 kL
  • August: 6115 kL
  • September: 686.8 kL
  • October: 3453.8 kL
  • November: 4734.8 kL
  • December: 4051.8 kL
  • January: 2727.8 kL

Responsible water management is particularly important in water-stressed areas. After reviewing the location of our facilities against the WRI Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas, we can confirm that our facilities are located within the Murray Darling (major) and Goulburn (minor) Basins in Victoria. The overall water risk of this area is classified as medium to high (2-3).

We have implemented a monitoring and reporting process to manage and reduce our water consumption. Our monitoring process includes regular water metre readings and analysis of our water usage to identify areas where we can improve our water management practices.

We understand that the management of water resources is crucial, and we are committed to using water responsibly. As such, we continue to explore ways to reduce our water consumption and improve our water management practices.
